March 14th

Hi ward,
We took a break from blogging last week because of stake conference and Sister Beck, but now we are back. This week is high council Sunday, so we will need extra preparation for the sabbath. The message will be centered around selfless service. Obviously Christ is the best example of selfless service in our lives. What are ways we can exemplify this attribute?
According to President Spencer W. Kimball,

[The Savior] gave himself for his followers. … He was ever conscious of doing what was right and of meeting the real and true needs of those he served. He put himself and his own needs second and ministered to others beyond the call of duty, tirelessly, lovingly, effectively. So many of the problems in the world today spring from selfishness and self-centeredness in which too many make harsh demands of life and others in order to meet their demands.

The more we understand what really happened in the life of Jesus of Nazareth in Gethsemane and on Calvary, the better able we will be to understand the importance of sacrifice and selflessness in our lives.

If we follow in [the Savior’s] footsteps, we can live by faith rather than by fear. If we can share his perspective about people, we can love them, serve them, and reach out to them—rather than feeling anxious and threatened by others.

If you have some more time in your daily study here is the whole lesson:
Lesson 8 Selfless Service

  1. I like what Lauren had to say in her talk--basically, that small acts of service are the way to go. Big service projects are great and all, but they don't help you develop a way of life that reflects service in every action. You gotta try to incorporate service into your everyday routine. Which probably means helping out people you see on a regular basis, like roommates, classmates, etc... for example, I overheard a girl talking to my History teacher, saying that she would have to miss every Thursday class because she's on the softball team. He asked if she had somebody to send her the notes for Thursday classes, and she shook her head and said no. So I just piped up out of nowhere and told her that I could send her my notes from Thursdays, without her having to build up her courage to ask some random person.

It's not much, but it's as much as I can do for right now.
